Review movie is Ghost Town (2008)

Dr. Pincus (played by Ricky Gervais) is a dentist who always lives alone. Selfishness and annoying behavior make no one wants to be friends or establish love with him. Pincus himself didn't bother too much. He lived his flat life alone. The only problem that really makes him dizzy is a digestive disease. Actually, he had tried to treat it himself by buying laxatives advertised on television. But the disease didn't get better, it got worse because he couldn't stop defecating.

Finally, Pincus decided to seek treatment at a hospital. From the start, it was already apparent that the hospital service was not very good. And how the nurse ignored the protests from the perfectionist Pincus. But he could do nothing more, as a result, his behavior was even more annoying. He even dared to mock the female doctor who would operate when he was on the gurney to the operating room.

After being declared cured, Pincus walked out of the hospital while grumbling at how incompetent the hospital service was. He was even angrier when he saw a group of nurses who were resting, smoking casually at the gate of the hospital. So upset he nagged one of the nurses who was standing pensively nearby. He was the only nurse who did not smoke. Actually, Pincus tried to praise him a little, saying that he had done the right thing, by not smoking in public.

But the beautiful nurse actually looked surprised. "Are you talking to me?" he asked. Pincus thought that this nurse had been rude and turned back to him while walking away. He didn't pay attention if there was something different from the nurse. Her clothes and make-up look old-fashioned, so is the way to speak. The nurse continued to follow him, Pincus became a little scared and started running. A moment later, he saw that there were a lot of people who started running after him, joining the nurse.

Pincus became more frightened and accelerated his run, almost he was hit by a taxi. At a crossroads, he managed to outwit the gang in the opposite direction and save himself. But he did not know that one of the mobs had seen him run away. He is Frank (played by Greg Kinnear), a flamboyant man who always appears using a tuxedo.

Frank then followed Pincus while shouting for his name. Pincus tried to send him away. But that's when he realized that something was wrong with his vision. With his own eyes, he saw Frank being hit by a bus, but still able to walk casually without getting hurt. It turned out that Frank was a ghost, and so were the beautiful nurses and other members of the gang that followed him.

They are ghosts who have not been able to rest in peace. They still feel they have a task that has not been completed in the world, so they haunt to find ways to complete the task. Upon learning that Pincus could see their whereabouts, there was hope that the dentist would be willing to help them complete their unfinished business in the world. Thus they can rest in peace and not wander again.

Knowing the terrible condition, Pincus immediately returned to the hospital where he was operated on first. He wanted to know whether there might be a procedure error when they operated on it. He complained of getting hallucinations and seeing a ghost. Finally, he found out from the doctor if it turned out that Pincus had been declared "dead" for 7 minutes because all his vital organs stopped functioning. But strangely, he came back to life 7 minutes later. The doctor decided to keep it a secret, for fear that Pincus would sue the hospital for malpractice.

Pincus finally realized, there was no way to stop or treat the hallucinations he experienced. He did not feel the need to fear Frank anymore, but he refused Frank's request to help him solve unfinished business in the world. But Frank instead worked on it by telling his apartment address to all the ghost groups that were roaming in New York, they then began to bother him until he could not sleep.

Frank promised to drive the ghosts if Pincus wanted to help him. His request was for Pincus to help separate his widow from an evil lawyer who only wanted mere money. Here the storyline starts to be funny. Frank's wife, Gwen (played by Tea Leoni), is a mummy-loving scientist and another Egyptian history. He is among the many people who hate Pincus because of his selfish and annoying attitude. Pincus must try extra hard to make Gwen want to be friends with him.

After meeting Gwen's fiance, the rather arrogant lawyer, Pincus decides to try to get Gwen to break up with him and he succeeds. When he found out, Frank's ghost was happy, but strangely he still could not rest calmly too. Meanwhile, Pincus himself finally realized that he himself had fallen in love with Gwen. Then, selfishly, he used all the knowledge about Gwen, which Frank gave him, to attract his attention. But Gwen turned out to hate him instead because he thought Pincus had the heart to use information on his life with his late husband to approach him. When Pincus said that he was haunted by Frank's ghost, and that's why he knew a lot about Gwen. But he instead challenged Pincus.

He said that during his lifetime, Frank had always had nightmares. Frank never told anyone about his nightmare, except himself. If it was Frank's ghost with Pincus, he would surely tell him what the dream was. But, Frank deliberately gave the wrong information to him. Gwen saw that Pincus couldn't answer correctly, then told Pincus to go and don't bother him anymore. Apparently Frank deliberately made the wrong answer, seeing how Pincus had the heart to make Gwen cry, just so he could have a relationship with him. Frank doesn't like Pincus to make Gwen said.

Pincus broke his heart and returned to his mourning life. His behavior is even more annoying. When finally the other ghosts managed to find their place of practice and tried to ask him for help, Pincus still willingly refused and told them to leave. He doesn't care, he said. But the ghosts were still trying and patiently waiting in the practice waiting room, day and night.

Pincus' practice friend saw the loss of his colleague like he was having a serious problem. Pincus then told about his love breakup and asked his colleague to prescribe sedatives to him, so he could sleep. But, his colleague advised him instead, so that Pincus would change. He must throw away his selfish and annoying attitude because that will only bring bad consequences for him. No one will stand near him if he doesn't change immediately.

Pincus seemed to realize how sad his lonely and miserable life was. He then made a decision to change. Pincus then came to a mob of ghosts who were still waiting faithfully in the waiting room of his practice and began asking what their problems were. Pincus then discarded his selfishness and helped them solve problems that had not yet been resolved in the world. One by one the ghosts disappeared and stopped bothering him. Except for Frank.

Yes, Frank seems to still have unfinished business in the world. That it turned out that separating Gwen from the evil lawyer was not included in the matter. There is still one more business, but unfortunately, they both don't know. After pondering for a long time, Pincus finally decided to meet Gwen and try to improve the relationship.

Gwen refused and chose to leave. But Pincus did not give up. He chases Gwen and expresses his feelings sincerely, that he loves Gwen and apologizes for using information from her late husband to approach him. Suddenly a high-speed bus hit Pincus to death. Pincus's ghost meets Frank's ghost in that place.

Frank then saw the sad cry of Gwen seeing Pincus's body lying on the edge of the road. He finally realized if it turns out "that's" his business that has not been completed in the world. He could not feel calm until Gwen managed to find a good man instead. And when he saw Gwen turned out to have served Pincus, he realized that his task was finished. Pincus is a good man and he will be able to accompany Gwen.

Then along with the departure of Frank's spirit, somehow the spirit of Pincus managed to get back into his body. Pincus survived and he was treated again at the hospital which had operated on it, with the same doctor.

But, this time Pincus is no longer rude. After "died" for the second time, then came back to life, Pincus realized that he should not waste his life with bad behavior and solitude. He wants to change, be more sympathetic and caring. At the end of the film, it is shown that he meets Gwen again. Pincus then told Gwen that Frank's ghost had told him about his nightmare before finally disappearing. And this time, the information Frank gave was true. Gwen then realized if it turned out that Frank really really was with them a few days. And if it turns out Pincus is not an evil liar who has ruined his life. He is willing to be.
