Review movie of Oldboy (2003)

Oldboy is a South Korean film adaptation of Japanese comics by Tsuchiya Garon (1996). Oldboy is one of the films of the bloody trilogy with Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Sympathy for Mrs. Vengeance, known as the "Vengeance Trilogy" by Park Chan-Wook, is the third most memorable in the minds of the audience. The Oldboy film was released in 2003, received positive criticism and a warm welcome at the most prestigious film festival in the world, Cannes and won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Festival, the film also won many other international awards.

The story is, a man, Daesu-oh (Min Sik Choi), is drunk and doing something in the police station. At first, Daesu only wanted to bring a birthday present in the form of a small wing to her daughter, but then disappeared and she was kidnapped by unknown people. Stuck in a secret room with a thick iron door, Daesu did not know the reason why he was locked in the room.

a year later he watched the news on television that his wife had been killed by himself, even though he himself was helpless in the room. Until 15 years had passed in that room Daesu came out by being hypnotized first so he did not know where he was confined. Out in neat clothes and having lost his senses, Daesu has turned into a person who is so angry and vows to avenge the mastermind behind his confinement so far. During the search for the truth, Daesu met Mido (Hye-Jeong Kang), a seafood restaurant waiter who faithfully helped him in the search, instead, Daesu fell in love with Mido.

Slowly but surely, with the instructions, Daesu found out who was the one who locked him for 15 years in that mysterious room, that person was Woo-jin Lee (Ji-Tae Yu). Because of his yearly desire, Daesu was challenged by Woo-jin Lee for 5 days to find out for himself the reason why he was confined for 15 years, after which Daesu could avenge his vengeance to Woo-Jin. From this, Daesu tried to find crazy facts about Woo-Jin and his mistakes in the past.

Something that is proud of South Korea. After being famous for teenage romantic dramas, I tried tasting this Korean film that Quentin Tarantino praised.

The story is rather complicated but classy. When Oh Dae Su was locked up without knowing the reason, was slandered, tortured and so on, making him want to know who the mastermind behind it all became passionate and revenge was a pain-healing medicine that lasted for 15 years. Of course, it raises its own questions about who and what caused someone to hate to lock him up for 15 years. An interesting story when Dae Su found the mastermind but was challenged to find his own reasons.

A wild but suffocating spectacle. Typical non-mainstream films. The scene was executed through Dae Su's passionate revenge. The explosive emotions make me cringe. There are many unusual but natural scenes as someone who is not free for 15 years and has a high appetite. Until the Korean-style romantic story that helped color the brutality of the film. From the beginning to the beak to the end it is interesting. But an ending unexpectedly widened his eyes. Eyes wide open, mouth gaping then suffocating.

Dae-Su Oh: Even though I'm no better than a wild animal, don't I have the right to live?

Be careful when speaking, because the mouth is like a sword that can hurt anyone. Love is blind, at least we are not easily trapped in instant love stories. Be more careful and think a lot.
