Film Review: Doctor Sleep, Death Sound, Pain Relief, Muffling Screams

It's been years since Dan Torrance has tried to let go of his terrible past. Alcohol is an escape. However, what was ringing in his head could not be released just like that. What caused it? And Torrance was introduced in the film The Shining, which was released in 1980. This time, thanks to its features, Dan Torrance returned. The following reviews or reviews of the film Doctor Sleep that will air in theaters starting November 6, 2019, in theaters.

His beard is irregular. His face was matted. And Torrance (Ewan McGregor) is like a beggar who is displaced. Wanting her life to be better, Dan Torrance met new people in a quiet little town.

Unfortunately, there is nothing new in his head. When you fall asleep or make alcohol an escape from his life, and then hear the sounds he wants to forget. The voices that called him since he was little. Ever since his father did something crazy at a hotel called Overlook.

His move to a new city did not make Dan Torrance lose those voices. Instead, he saw for himself with his eyes, the wall of his new room wrote an introduction. Starting from Abra to a kind of "youthful" group called The True Knot with their respective specialties. Who are they? Is this all connected with Dan's past, or is this a destiny that must be fulfilled when getting a talent that no other human has.

Resist Pain, Suppress Screech

Still taking part in the genre of his first film, The Shining, the film Doctor Sleep is very strong in the drama part. Nearly three-quarters of the film relies more on the power of drama and all its conflicts. Not only Dan but also Abra, to Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson).

The introduction of each character and their respective goals become part of the drama plot which is finally well presented. Fortunately, the drama of this film is not straightforward, so it is straightforward, clear, without further ado.

It's just that for those who want to find out how and what causes and then become an alcoholic and gain strength, it is not explained clearly through this film. Only through bodily gestures or 'very dangerous' Overlook, hotel sets explained why he could get that power.

The rest in the quarter of the film, the audience will be faced with a situation that is far from the impression of drama. Only at this moment, the touch of the thriller-horror is presented. Inviting the audience to endure pain, and muffle screams, follow how the actors appear to solve their respective problems that have been presented from the beginning to lead to problem-solving at the end of the film.

Not terrible. In fact, the audience is indeed confronted with a horror fantasy that feels fun. A new style horror film presentation. No need for jumpscare or ghosts. Also, if there are, these ghosts are actually just a twist which also certainly will surprise the audience. An interesting thing for a film that embeds the horror genre as part of the story, and it's interesting to watch.

All because of the fantasy elements that are placed in this film. How Dan and Abra play around with their strengths, manipulating to speak with spirits is a powerful fantasy part of this film when there are too many drama elements.

Not to mention, the part when Rose the That and his group played with the 'steam' taken from people who lived and then killed. The fantasy is right, not excessive. Being able to balance between drama and thriller offered throughout the film.

Rebecca Ferguson Steals Attention

There is no main play in this film. Doctor Sleep immediately divided it with concrete goals. And with his past, a "moral compass" saved Abra from the clutches of Rose the Hat who wanted to have a long life.

Well, this is where almost all the characters are tested for appearance to maximize a film. Rebecca Ferguson who played Rose the Hat in the film Doctor Sleep has been known to play more in drama movies. His ability began to steal attention when he became one of the British secret agents and appeared with Tom Cruise.

However, playing a nasty and ambitious evil character? For the time the actress was able to play her role well. Cunning is its strength. Not just a battle of strength between Rose the Hat against Abra or Dan, but the way to gain influence to carry out his ambitions. Overall, Rebecca Ferguson was well-rounded to be an antagonist which made the audience furious.

Doctor Sleep and The Shining

Once again, I had doubts about the film Doctor Sleep going to have a messy storyline. Moreover, it is not necessarily acceptable to all audiences. This is important considering the time span between the film Doctor Sleep as a sequel from The Shining is too far away.

The form of "madness" in the film The Shining will not necessarily be repeated in the film Doctor Sleep. However, everything went smoothly when it was the final quarter of the film. The relationship between one character in the film Doctor Sleep explains everything. Plus, it offers something that invites the audience of The Shining to reminisce.

I have been mentioned in the facts of the film Doctor Sleep yesterday. One important part is the rebuilt set of Overlook hotels. The rest, you yourself will present how Hotel Overlook will be the final key of the film Doctor Sleep.

The reason why Dan became an alcoholic and what a heavy burden he carried after the crazy events that had happened to him since he was a child. Other reasons that will roll your eyes at almost three-fourths of the beginning of the film.
